Welcome to the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship Programme at Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital.
Congratulations on choosing a meaningful and enriching career in this field!
I am delighted that you have chosen to train at Al Jalila Children’s Hospital Child Psychiatry Programme. I am also confident that your experience will prepare you in becoming an excellent clinician.
We are all aware that the prevalence of mental health needs among children and young people in our region is quite significant. However, there aren’t enough child psychiatrists in the present that can meet this essential demand. Therefore, one of our main missions in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship Programme is to educate and train the next generation of leaders in the field of child and adolescent mental health. We hope that the graduates of our child and adolescent psychiatry Programme will be well prepared in becoming familiar with the key familial, cultural, and social constructs involved in child and adolescent mental health. We also believe that they will pursue successful careers across a wide range of clinical, teaching, and research settings.
We want to train our fellows to pay attention to the child developmental ability and attend to any disturbances in cognition, emotion and behavior that may influence the child’s bio-psychosocial, cultural and spiritual development. To establish the knowledge and the experience, our two years Programme with its longitudinal and vertical clinical experiences will offer a rich foundation.
The Programme offers foundational training as well as comprehensive specialized trainings in complex care specialized clinics and inpatient settings. Fellows can expect to receive education in a variety of hospital and community-based settings where child and adolescent psychiatry patients are commonly seen. This include outpatients, inpatients, consultations, liaison services and a day Programme service operating in a specialized children hospital. In addition to training in psychopharmacology, we give emphasis to the value of psychotherapy training through case-based learning, didactics educational activities and supervision. We have a diverse and dedicated teaching faculty including various members of the mental health team. There are available opportunities of departmental research on a variety of mental health topics either independently or as joint projects with MBRU with our full support to trainees’ involvement in such activities.
We believe that our Programme graduates will make profound and positive differences in the lives of the children they treat and in their community. We are pleased with your interest in becoming a part of Al Jalila Children’s Hospital Child Psychiatry Fellowship Programme and we look forward to meeting you soon.
